How to create a no-cook emergency food supply
Why PrepHeads avoids dried pasta and rice — and what to buy instead.
Why no-cook?
Dried pasta, rice and lentils need boiling water. If there's no power or gas, they're no use.
Choose foods that are safe to eat straight from the tin, packet or pouch.
Good choices
Tinned fish and meat, ready-to-eat beans, tinned fruit and veg, crackers, oatcakes, cereal with UHT milk, nuts, dried fruit and cereal bars.
Always check the label — some rice pouches and beans must be heated.
Without a fridge
Opened tins and cartons should be finished at that meal. Buy small packs that suit your household size.
